Hunter girls, Hampton boys prevail

A capacity crowd was on hand at Hunter Elementary School on Monday to watch the Tigers try and take the bite out of a bunch of Jr. Bulldogs. The Lady Cats found success in their quest, but the boys got bitten by the Blue Canines.
Hunter ended a long drought by knocking off the Lady Bulldogs 53-44. Hampton cruised to a 52-30 win on the boys’ side.

A close contest for one quarter began to see some separation in the second stanza due to the red-hot shooting Lady Tigers.
Hunter used a pair of late baskets by Monica Honeycutt and Kaitlin Burrow to take a 10-6 lead, but a runner at the buzzer from Hope Bridgeman got the Lady Bulldogs within two going into the second frame.

Chris Holtsclaw torched Hunter for 18 points, including 14 in the first quarter, that allowed the ’Dogs to take a commanding 22-4 lead and cruise to a win.
