HVHS teen killed in Sunday crash

A Carter County teen was killed in an accident Sunday afternoon when authorities say he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and struck a utility pole.
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Lowe, 16-year-old Daniel G. Mullins rounded a curve near 793 Smalling Road at a high rate of speed before losing control of the four-door passenger vehicle.
Mullins, a Happy Valley High School student, was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner and medical personnel.
Lowe said the investigation is still ongoing, but speed seems to be the cause of the crash.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and there were no passengers in the vehicle with Mullins, Lowe said.
