Firefighters with the Hampton/Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Department prepare to enter the burning home at 2535 Bob Little Road in the fire’s early stages.

A Valley Forge woman is safe but her home of the past several years was rendered a complete loss after a fire burned its way through the structure.

On Tuesday, shortly after noon, firefighters were called to 2535 Bob Little Road to combat a fire that had already threatened to consume the doublewide in its entirety.

Members of the Hampton/Valley Forge and Watauga volunteer fire departments arrived to battle the blaze that would ultimately consume the entire back half of the home, as well as a white-and-tan Ford Expedition that was parked in the rear.

Kristie Buchanan, 38, was at work teaching kindergarten at Happy Valley Elementary School when she received word that her home had caught fire. After arriving at the bottom of the hill leading up to her home, Buchanan spoke with members of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, but did not, at that time, venture up to survey the damage.
