Aiming to awe and spread Christmas cheer among the community, the Roan Mountain Citzens Club is hosting its annual Christmas in the Village tree-lighting ceremony Monday night.
RMCC Public Relations Chairperson Kelsey Tipton said this year’s tree lighter, 2-year-old Jace Buck, son of Regina and John Buck, personifies the service-oriented nature of the community.
“We like it to be a person that the community has really rallied around and supported,” Tipton said. “He is a wonderful representation of our community support.”
Buck has already faced multiple heart surgeries but maintains a wonderful spirit, Tipton said.
“Because of the unfortunate trials he has faced, the community has grown,” Tipton said. “Although Roan Mountain is a small community, it is one with a huge heart.”
She said the event is a way to honor and promote community togetherness.
“It truly is a community effort for community union and appreciation,” she said. The Cloudland Highnotes, Cloudland String Band and Cloudland High School Marching Band will perform at the event.
Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m. with entertainment beginning at 6 p.m., all leading up to the arrival of Santa and the lighting of the tree.
Tipton also encourages everyone to bring canned goods to the event. Donations will help support local food banks.
