Jail money should have gone to animal shelter
Editor:
Personally, I think the animal shelter should have been built before the jail and the money that was put into the jail should have been used on a new shelter.
Jail is not supposed to be a vacation. Prisoners should be ricked in like stove wood, made to wear pink bloomers and uniforms, made to eat bread and water, have to use hand-held fans instead of air conditioners (sorry, folks in jail, nothing against you personally, but this kind of treatment would be better for you in the long run. You would do everything in your power to stay out of jail if conditions were more like that. I know I would.)
The animals at the shelter are in a far worse place and most of them did nothing to deserve being there. You can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats his animals. The average dog is nicer than the average person. Carter County does need to take care of its animals one way or the other.
If the animal shelter committee needs more money, then give them more money!
You should take a ride up to Newland, N.C., and have a look at what they think of their animals. Their new shelter is behind roses and they have a high regard for their animals where we have a high regard for prisoners.
