JCMC receives high ranking from US News

JOHNSON CITY — Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC), the flagship hospital of Mountain States Health Alliance (MSHA) has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report’s Best Hospitals 2012 as a high performer in 11 different specialties. JCMC was the highest-ranking hospital in the Northeast Tennessee region and No. 4 statewide, behind Vanderbilt University Medical Center, University of Tennessee Medical Center and Methodist Hospitals of Memphis.

JCMC was recognized by US News as a high performer in the following specialties:

Cancer

Cardiology and heart surgery

Neurology and neurosurgery

Orthopedics

Pulmonology

Diabetes and endocrinology

Ear, nose and throat

Urology

Geriatrics

Gastroenterology

Nephrology

JCMC was the only hospital in the region to be recognized as a high performer in cardiology/heart surgery, cancer care and neurology/neurosurgery.

“In order to evaluate our own performance, we constantly exchange clinical quality data with other leading hospitals across the country to see how we measure up and where we can make improvements. US News and World report has used some of that same data in their report, and we are honored to be recognized alongside some of the finest hospitals in the nation.”

The rankings were published by U.S. News in collaboration with RTI International, a research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Highlights of the 2012-13 rankings will appear in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2013 guidebook, to go on sale in August.
