Citing a necessity for fresh ideas and a love of community, a local businessman announced his intention to represent Carter and Unicoi counties in the state Legislature.
On Friday, John Holsclaw Jr., owner of Jeweler’s Bench in Elizabethton, submitted papers to officially declare his candidacy for the District 4 state representative’s seat, which will be vacated when current state Rep. Kent Williams retires at the end of his term.
“I care about the community,” Holsclaw said. “I love Unicoi and Carter counties, and I want to represent them in Nashville.”
A Carter County native, Holsclaw lives in Johnson City with his wife, Sheri, and five daughters: Taylor, Kaeli, Dana, Hannah, and Holly. He graduated from Happy Valley High School in 1982 before going on to earn his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from East Tennessee State University in 1992.
