The young stallions of Sullivan East might have galloped out of Mountain City with a big Three Rivers Conference win had it not been for two thoroughbreds in the Longhorns’ stable.
Brian Dempsey and Chase Phillips combined to score 61 points Thursday night, leading Johnson County to a 77-73 overtime win over the Patriots inside of Ray Shoun Gymnasium.
The game had more highs and lows than the stock market, with numerous lead changes in the second half. Longhorns head coach Austin Atwood knew his team was in for a battle because his mentor was sitting on the Patriots’ bench.
