Two successful trips to the free throw line for Adam Cornett sealed a 49-45 victory for Hampton’s Jr. Bulldogs over Happy Valley Thursday night at Bayless Gym.
The win captured the Tri-County tournament National Division championship (large schools) for Hampton.
“It was a very big win,” winning head coach Dewayne Humphrey said. “It felt like our kids worked hard all season long and I’m glad they got to come out tonight and get rewarded. They have worked their tails off all year and it’s great to see it pay off for these kids.”
The two teams exchanged free throws on back-to-back possessions, with Dylan Kyte pulling the Jr. Warriors within two points 47-45. Cornett would go to the other end of the floor and sink both attempts on the one-and-one. He finished the game with 13 points, with seven of those points coming in the final quarter.
