Hampton’s quest to catch Johnson County was like watching Wile E. Coyote chase after the Roadrunner. Anytime the Jr. Bulldogs tried a trap, the Jr. Longhorns found a way to get through it.
The ’Horns put themselves in sole possession of first place with a 60-46 win on Monday night in middle school basketball action at Hampton Elementary. The Lady Jr. Bulldogs evened the score with a hard-fought 24-19 victory in the girls’ contest.
In the boys’ contest, the end result was no indication as to what took place during the first 10 minutes of the game. Hampton led 11-9 after one and was playing toe-to-toe with the Longhorns.
Johnson County 19
The Lady Bulldogs pulled away late thanks to Johnson County’s struggles at the charity stripe.
The Longhorns made just 7-of-19 and missed six of those in the final two minutes.
