Kennedy likens election to 1960

By

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Caroline Kennedy says the re-election of President Barack Obama is just as important to the future of the country as the 1960 election of her father, John F. Kennedy.

Kennedy told the Democratic National Convention that Obama shares the ideals of her father and her uncles, such as social justice, economic fairness and equal opportunity. The election, she says, is about whether those ideals will be advanced or swept away.

She says the election is particularly important to women and children.

Kennedy said that despite warnings that it was not good politics, Obama listened to the late Sen. Edward Kennedy and staked his presidency on health care reform.
