Lauren Hyatt took the title of an old Alabama song to describe how she decided on King University. “‘It feels so right’ to me,” she said about continuing her cheerleading career as a Tornado.
Hyatt signed on Tuesday with the Bristol school, only about 30 minutes from Elizabethton High School. It wasn’t a very difficult decision for her to make thanks to a relationship she formed with their newly named head coach. You might call it being in the right place at the right time.
“I was taking tumbling at Appalachian in Johnson City and King’s new cheerleading coach, Debbie Neilson, was teaching over there,” said Hyatt. “She said she would love to have me on her team and I decided to pursue it. I love cheering so getting to go there and do this is something special. I love going to a smaller school because it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. Vanessa (Nanney) and I are very good friends, so getting the opportunity to do this with my high school teammate and friend is very special.”
