JOHNSON CITY — Double digit leads in the first half quietly led to a deficit. East Tennessee State’s women would not budge.
Fighting back with clutch baskets and a big defensive stop in the final seconds, the Lady Buccaneers opened Atlantic Sun play in the win column surviving Lipscomb 78-75 Thursday at MSHA Athletic Center.
“I thought Lipscomb was tremendous tonight,” said ETSU coach Brittney Ezell. “I think they deserve a lot of credit. Our kids were fortunate to escape, but, at the same time, I think our kids showed resiliency.
“The battled through probably, in my opinion, one of the worst performances we’ve put on in a very long time. I don’t know if our players resigned to playing what they feel is the level of competition, but I need them to play at a higher level, we need them to play at a higher level and hold one another accountable to playing at a higher level regardless of how the ball bounces every night.”
