It was a battle uphill for the Lady Bulldogs all night. Unfortunately, “Upton” was too much.
Hampton fell behind early and was never able to recover despite a strong second-half performance from Monica Olvera as it fell 53-42 to first-place South Greene in Watauga Valley Conference play on Tuesday night.
The Lady Rebels received 18 points from senior Cheyenne Upton, including nine in the final quarter.
“We just didn’t come out ready to play,” Hampton coach Bud Hazelwood said. “We were down 16 at halftime, and our goal was to get it to eight but it was still 16. In a big game, we weren’t ready and I guess that falls back on me. We just weren’t ready.”
