Hampton’s Lady Bulldogs used a “Stretch Armstrong” third-quarter to break open a close game against Johnson County. Three treys and a pair of deuces ignited a 13-2 run that led to their 60-39 win on Friday inside of VanHuss-White Gymnasium.
At times the Lady Bulldogs played some quality basketball. They built a 14-6 after the first quarter, but their offense would sputter some in the second quarter. That didn’t sit well with coach Leon Tolley.
“We got a little nonchalant in the second quarter and forget what got us ahead,” Tolley said. “We started playing like we were behind and we’re lucky they didn’t go ahead instead of being down by only five. We challenged our kids to come out in the second half and pressure them because they dictated the tempo in the first half. I thought we dictated it in the second half.”
