Lady Bulldogs finish second in Honda Classic

GRAY — A David versus Goliath story is always fun — if David manages to beat the giant.
On Saturday night that opportunity presented itself to the Hampton Lady Bulldogs as they faced Dobyns-Bennett in the championship game at the Johnson City Honda Classic at Snyder Gym.
A third-quarter swoon in which the Lady ’Dogs shot just 1-for-14 allowed the Lady Indians to erase a one-point Hampton halftime lead and take a 10-point lead into the final stanza. The Tribe made that lead hold up in a 51-44 win to take the title.
“We just really didn’t set up anything and it got us in a bind,” said Hampton senior guard Dorothy Dugger. “Sometimes we have a hard time in set offense and it kills us. We were kind of just doing our own thing out there, because the coaches had plays set up for us — but we didn’t run them real well.”
