A spell of Jeckyl and Hyde reared its ugly head, but the bats were the perfect tonic for Elizabethton.
Racking up 15 hits, the Lady Cyclones overcame a poor fourth-inning defensive effort with seven runs over their final three offensive frames to outlast Chuckey-Doak 14-9 in a season-opening, non-conference tilt at home.
Elizabethton led 7-0 before the dismal, three-error frame that helped spot their opponent nine runs.
The home team regrouped at the plate, however, closing out the game with eight hits in the final three offensive stanzas.
“There was one out and they scored nine runs,” said Elizabethton coach LeAnne Click. “We had some mental errors as well as some defensive errors. At first, I thought it wasn’t a big deal when we gave up three or four runs, then they ended up with nine runs.
