Elizabethton proved worthy of its No. 2 state ranking against a young and inexperienced Johnson County squad on Tuesday. The Lady Longhorns were in the hunt early before the Cyclones made them their prey.
’Betsy blew out Johnson County 78-26 inside of John Treadway Gymnsaium after scoring a combined 57 points during the second and third quarters. It was quite a turnaround from the first one, where they held a modest 13-8 advantage.
“My concern was we didn’t come out focused at first and were a step or two slower defensively, which caused us to pick up some reaching fouls,” said EHS head coach Len Dugger. “But I was very pleased with the way they regrouped and played in the second half. Johnson County was doing some good stuff early but they couldn’t get their shots to fall as the game went on. We had a lot of balance tonight in our scoring and that is always a good thing. I was pleased that we bounced back.”
