DORMAN, S.C. — Their victory punctuated by Kayla Marosites’ driving layup with one second to go, Elizabethton’s Lady Cyclones edged North Carolina’s Southeast Raleigh 40-38 Monday for a fifth-place finish in the Dorman Classic.
“We did some things, made little adjustments defensively and tried to keep them out of the transition phase of the game that they rely and depend on,” said Lady Cyclones coach Len Dugger. “We made some plays down at the end and created a turnover with 3.9 seconds left, got Kayla with a little screen and she got it off as the horn went off.”
An all-tournament selection, Marosites totaled 19 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals in a loosely-called contest that made for rough-and-tumble play.
Sarah Robinson collected eight points and 10 rebounds for EHS (11-2). She proved to be a defensive catalyst, making her presence especially felt in the opening half.
