Lady Highlanders earn third district title in five years

By Logan Lawson

GRAY—North Greene had been a thorn in Cloudland’s side this season. However, the Lady Highlanders found the winning answer at the right time.

Cloudland used nine 3-pointers and solid defense to roll to a 60-40 win over the Lady Huskies in the District 1-A girls championship game at Daniel Boone High School on Tuesday night. It is the Lady ’Landers third District 1-A title in five years.

“It is great to be back and (be) district champs,” Cloudland coach Matt Birchfield said. “It gets tough down the road, but it’s great to have a district title. It is a great accomplishment for the girls.”

Haley Johnson paced the way with 15 points, including four 3-pointers in the first half, and Courtney Clarke also tossed in 15 points.
