Unaka was close to snagging a big fish without its all-conference point guard Alicia Colbaugh, but its boat got capsized in the fourth quarter.
Cloudland broke the dam with a flood of points, which led to a 50-31 Watauva Valley win over the Lady Rangers inside of Sonny Smith Gymnasium Tuesday night.
The game was tied at 27-27 but the Lady Highlanders opened the final quarter on a 13-0 run. And the margin grew a little more before the game would end.
“We started sharing the ball in the fourth quarter, which allowed us to get some good looks on the inside and the outside,” said Cloudland head coach Matt Birchfield. “We had worked on that all week, but for some reason we didn’t do a good job of it until then. Early in the game both teams were a little tight and missed some easy shots. We couldn’t seem to do anything well.”
