Unaka Elementary girl’s head coach Lacey (Oliver) Dugger is just days away from delivering her first baby. On Monday night, her team delivered to her the county championship of the small schools division by trouncing Hunter 41-21 inside Bayless Gymnasium.
Oliver watched from the stands as her dad, Kelly Oliver, coached the team in her absence. It was pretty much what she had seen all season.
“I hate to lose this group of eighth-graders because I don’t know if I’ll ever get another bunch like them,” Dugger said. “They’ve been dedicated to everything we’ve tried to do. They deserved this because they’ve worked hard for it. You couldn’t ask for a better group of girls to coach.”
