AFTON — Happy Valley’s Lady Warriors dropped a heartbreaker in the Tri-County Middle School conference championship Thursday night, coming up just short of tournament host Chuckey-Doak 41-40 in the title game.
It seemed like the Lady Warriors playing catch up the entire night until the final minute of the game, when they rallied to give themselves a chance. Kaitlyn Roberts hit a 3-pointer with :14 to play make it a one-point game, and Happy Valley had two chances from the foul line with :04 on the clock. The shots wouldn’t fall, and Chuckey-Doak held on to claim the tournament crown.
Happy Valley coach Dana Hill, whose Lady Warriors are 15-4, said playing from behind the whole night made things difficult, but he was happy with the way the team battled back to have a chance to win it.

Hampton’s Lady Bulldogs earned third in the tournament with a 43-33 win over rival Cloudland.
