BRISTOL, Va. — Free throws and miscues were the story of Unaka’s game with Virginia High on Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Borderline Classic. Nothing was going well for the Lady Rangers in the first half, but a buggyful of turnovers made things much sweeter in the second one.
A full-court press and 24-of-33 shooting from the foul line allowed Unaka to advance into the semifinals with a 54-49 win.
The Rangers had trouble defending Virginia High’s 6-3 freshman center, Savannah Jacobs, in the first half. She scored 10 points, eight in the second quarter helping the Lady Bearcats take a 23-18 halftime lead.
