Lady Warriors held off by Sullivan South, 54-49

Happy Valley brought the pop from outside, but the work down low would keep Sullivan South from heading to Grizzly country.

The Lady Rebels withstood a pair of late threes from Lady Warriors Mackenzie Blankenship and Jamie Lee Clark, and rode a 20-rebound performance from Kayla Tipton to secure third place with a 54-49 victory during the consolation game of the District 1-AA girls tournament held at Bayless Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

With the loss, the Lady Warriors will travel to No. 1 Grainger to face the Lady Grizzlies — the District 2 champions following a 79-51 win over Chuckey-Doak — for a 7 p.m. affair on Friday.

“We faced Grainger last year,” HVHS head coach Larry Abel. said. “They’re a very solid team. We’ve got our work cut out for us.”
