Girls can’t wrestle?
Naysayers should tread lightly down the hallways of Happy Valley high school, where five young ladies have qualified for the state meet.
“They take so much pride in what they do,” first-year Happy Valley head coach Eddie Morrell said of his female grapplers. “Pound for pound, there isn’t a guy on my team that wants anything to do with them.”
A former college wrestler himself, Morrell and his former teammates would of laughed at the idea of women wrestling. But now he marches to the beat of a different drum, no doubt due to a change of times. But whether it’s because women wrestling has progressed or because he has two daughters, it’s really one in the same.
