To the editor,
As a former Carter County Republican chairman, I read the letter by Jim Buchanan with both disbelief and sadness.
First, Kent Williams may not be a Nashville Republican, but he certainly is a backbone for our party in Carter County. No one has been a harder worker for our East Tennessee Republican values than Rep. Williams.
Revisiting his conflict with the extreme partisanship of the past does nothing to further the needs of Carter and Unicoi counties.
Kent Williams became Speaker Williams for exactly the same reasons that Mr. Buchanan now tries to twist to Mr. Gray’s advantage. During the past six years, Kent Williams has tirelessly and successfully brought needed projects to our area that benefit not only Carter County but our surrounding region, as well.
The addition of the Tennessee Technology Center would not have happened without the hard work of Kent Williams. Many of the long-delayed road projects we have seen being completed come as a direct result of Rep. Kent Williams’ efforts.
The last thing we need as our voice at the Capitol is someone whose ear is more tuned to party bosses than the needs of the citizens of Carter and Unicoi counties.
Moreover, Kent Williams is a proven, effective conservative, endorsed by the National Rifle Association, Tennessee Right to Life and National Federation of Independent Business. On Nov. 6, I’ll be supporting our friend and effective Rep. Kent Williams and hope you do also.
