CHURCH HILL — A valiant comeback attempt was plagued by missed opportunities, haunted by failed execution in the first half. In the end was another tough pill for Cloudland’s boys squad to swallow.
The Highlanders, who trailed by as many as 18 in the opening half, opened the second half with a 15-2 run and was one point away from a lead when a four-minute scoreless drought to end regulation allowed Volunteer to escape its home gym with a 44-36 senior-night victory.
“We felt we played the second half like we needed to play,” said Cloudland coach Gary Harrison. “We held them to nine points in the second half. The first half, defensively, we’ve got to play with a better sense of urgency and that’s kind of the difference in the ballgame.”
