Library a step away from shelving its two-board system

The Elizabethton Library board ratified the by-laws for the new joint Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library board during a meeting Tuesday afternoon.

The Elizabethton board and the Carter County library board have been working to form a single joint library board to oversee the operations of the library. The ECCPL is the only library in Tennessee still having two boards, and the boards started working toward consolidation after the state recommended it be done.

The by-laws for the new board state the combined group will have nine members; five from the city, two from the county, and one representative each from the Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Friends of the Library. The board will meet bi-monthly.
