Library’s 2013 Summer Reading Program closes with celebration

By

After spending eight weeks at the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program being encouragedPhoto by Brandon Hicks to “Dig Into Reading!” young readers were treated to a special celebration Tuesday morning to mark the end of this summer’s event.

Close to 400 children signed up to be a part of this summer’s reading program; its “Dig Into Reading!” theme was worked into the weekly sessions.

The program began on June 4 and continued until the end of July; during that time a parade of visitors shared information or performances: park rangers from Roan Mountain State Park, Elizabethton Twins players and Twins mascot Rookie, Cooper’s Gem Mine and Appalachian Caverns among them.
