Life Care Center of Elizabethton was among the area teams that took part in the 2012 Mountain States Dragon Boat Festival Saturday at Winged Deer Park in Johnson City.
Carter County was represented by Life Care of Elizabethton, which fielded the Life CAREibbean Pirates. Michelle Atwood and Regina Diehl served as co-captains for the Life Care Center team. “We did pretty good,” Atwood said. “This was our first year, and only two members of our team had participated before.”
Everybody on each team was asked to raise at least $100 in donations. Over the seven-year history of the event, the Dragon Boat Festival has raised more than $682,000. This year’s event raised more than $94,000 to benefit Mountain States Health Alliance Oncology Services, with money still coming in as of Monday afternoon.
“Everybody had a good time,” said Patty Bolton, director of major events/annual funds for Mountain States Foundation, which puts on the festival.
