The Carter County Imagination Library Board was informed during their meeting Wednesday afternoon that a limited number of braille books would be available for children that needed those style of books.
Children’s Librarian Ashlee Williams told the board that five different titles of the Imagination Library books would be available in the braille format. Only 200 copies of each title are available per state and will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. The Imagination Library is available in different states throughout the United States.
Williams said the forms to request the braille copies of the Imagination Library books were available at the Elizabethton/ Carter County Public Library.
The Imagination Library is also planning for upcoming events that they will be participating in. Volunteers from the Imagination Library will be present at the 2012 Back to School Bash that is sponsored by Harmony Free Will Baptist Church in Hampton.
The Back to School Bash provides students with free school supplies like book bags, notebooks, crayons, scissors, markers, pens, pencils and others. They also have the opportunity to get a free haircut and there is free games, prizes, hot dogs, drinks and desserts. The bash also features clowns, puppet shows, live music, inflatable rides, horseback riding and face painting.
The Back to School Bash will be held on Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Harmony Free Will Baptist Church at 3405 Gap Creek Road in Hampton.
The board also discussed plans for the upcoming Educators Hall of Fame dinner that will be held in October. The group is searching for a caterer to cook the dinner and has been talking with a number of local restaurants. Chairman Lilo Duncan asked that those who were talking with restaurants get prices for the catering services so the board could make a decision during the August meeting.
