Local churches host Trunk or Treat events

Church-based Halloween alternatives are becoming as popular than traditional trick-or-treating.

The popularity of Trunk or Treat has been steadily growing. More churches are coming to realize that Trunk or Treat provides a way to reach the community and invite visitors to church. Also, as the concern over the safety of trick-or-treat grows, parents are looking for safer alternatives.

“It’s basically trick-or-treating, but out of the trunk of a car,” said the youth director at West Side Christian, which is hosting its first trunk or treat with neighboring Immanuel Baptist Church on Halloween night.

Most churches look at Trunk or Treat as a safe alternative to offer the young people, while they can still have a great deal of fun, and of course, get a real stash of goodies before they are done. Other churches will also have fall festivals with pumpkin-carving, face-painting and carnival games. Some of the events raise money for the church ministries, but most are free.
