The Region 1-A tournament could be a near repeat of the district. Eight games will take place with over half of them pretty much decided.
District 2-A is probably the weakest one in the state. Having to watch some of this weekend’s matchups will be like being forced to drink ice tea after it’s been left sitting for five hours – watered down and not very tasteful.
Go ahead and move North Greene and Cloudland to the semifinals on the girls’ side. The ladies from Clinch lost 80-7 in the semifinals to Cosby, and the Washburn team will look like “Smufs” compared to Brooke Rhodes and Courtney Wilson
Cosby’s two all-state candidates, Lexi Lowery (19 ppg.) and Tiffany Smelcer (18 ppg), were passed over during a recent conference meeting to pick the league’s MVP. So head coach Richard Coggins administered a 73-point loss to Clinch, then hammered Hancock County 59-29 in the championship.
And the starters played just a little over half the game.
Coach James Buchanan is a fine man and will try to keep the score respectable with Clinch. So will Matt Birchfield with Washburn. But it won’t happen.
