MOUNTAIN CITY—The red-hot shooting of Chase Phillips and Johnson County’s stingy defense derailed Happy Valley on Tuesday night inside of Ray Shoun Gymnasium. Phillips fired in 21 points, leading the Longhorns to a 53-37 victory.
It was simply a night that the Longhorns contested almost every Warrior shot, and the Tribe couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. With 6:00 minutes remaining in the game, the Warriors had mustered only 24 points.
“We dug ourselves a hole in the Unaka game and we did same here tonight,” said Happy Valley’s head coach Chuck Babb. “You can do that sometimes when you’re making shots, but I could have dropped kick more in than what we made tonight. When you have nights like this, you’ve got to be able to get to the rim, make free throws and create opportunities. We didn’t do any of those until it was too late.”
