Johnson County cut to the “Chase” when putting away Happy Valley early on Monday.
Chase Phillips scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the first half, allowing the Longhorns to win easily 55-42 inside of Ray Shoun Gymnasium.
The ’Horns sprinted out to a 15-4 lead after one and led by 15 at the half. Coach Austin Atwood was pleased to get the win but felt like his team struggled throughout the game.
“The game got ugly at times tonight,” said Atwood. “It was hit and miss. I thought (Cody) Bailie did a good job of taking some pressure off Brian (Dempsey). He played well on both ends of the floor and Chase (Phillips) played good in spurts. I wanted us to push it more after beating their pressure because I thought we could get some easy baskets.
