MOUNTAIN CITY — Johnson County’s basketball team delivered in the clutch.
After watching Hampton roar back from a double-digit deficit on Friday night, the Longhorns hung on for a 64-61 non-conference decision at Ray Shoun Memorial Gymnasium. Cody McClain’s 3-pointer with 15 seconds remaining pulled the Bulldogs within a point, before Chris Poteet’s two free throws sealed the outcome.
“We about gave it away again,” Johnson County coach Austin Atwood said. “Tonight I thought we did a good job coming out in the third quarter. We did a pretty good job.
“We even extended the lead a couple of times. Then we came out in the fourth, had a few sloppy turnovers and they got more loose balls than we did. I thought that was a big key.”
