Johnson County head coach Mike Atwood got the “Big Deal” of the day on Saturday when the TSSAA playoffs were announced. Behind their curtain was No. 2 seed Chuckey-Doak, which the Longhorns gladly accepted.
The Black Knights (7-3) are a good football team, but that didn’t stop the team from being relieved. Atwood was expecting worse. He knows his team dodged a bullet about 70 miles further down the road.
“We thought our chances of getting into the playoffs were pretty good if we won on Friday,” said Atwood. “The boys were excited when they saw we had dodged Alcoa. They feel like they can win if we play well and practices have been good. They’re upbeat and excited to be playing this week. Chuckey-Doak’s a good team, but we like our chances.”
