Johnson County stole one from the jaws of defeat that would have made Robin Hood and Blackbeard proud.
Chase Phillips hit a five-foot jumper with :03 remaining, allowing the Lomghorns to escape Sonny Smith Gymnasium with a 52-51 overtime win.
It was Johnson County’s only lead after halftime. Head coach Austin Atwood was relieved to escape with the victory.
“This is one tough place to win at,” Atwood said. “You can be 40 points better and it wouldn’t matter. We could have quit 20 times because we weren’t having the best game in the world. But our kids hung in there and fought their tails off. We’ve won two or three close games like this. That says a lot about our kids.”
