Mallard Cove, Beef O’s take American Little League baseball tilts

Mallard Cove and Beef O’ Brady’s each prevailed in Carter County American Little League baseball action on Thursday night at Jim Ensor Field.

Citizens Banks was taken down by Mallard Cove 11-4. In the nightcap, Beef O’ Brady’s defeated the Lawdogs 4-3.

Hunter Davenport batted 3 for 3 with three RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases to lead the winners. He also hurled the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

In fact, Ben Hardin’s single to lead off the fifth was Citizens Bank’s only hit. Lightning and thunderstorms then set in and the opener was called.

Mallard’s Blake King pitched two innings of shutout ball, fanning four and walking one. In 1 1/3 innings, Joe Jamison yielded three earned runs, struck out two and walked three.

Citizens’ Gage Green lasted only 1/3 of an inning. He was touched for one hit, no earned runs and fanned one with two walks.

Nat Frost worked the final 5 2/3 innings. He scattered eight hits, surrendered three earned runs, struck out 11 and walked one.

King and Jamison each went 2 for 3. Jamison also recorded three steals.

Mallard jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first inning. Davenport ripped a run-scoring single, an error plated a score and Davenport stole home.

Jamison tripled in the second and crossed on an error to make it 4-0. In the third, King led off with a triple. Davenport delivered a run-scoring single, and again stolehome to push the cushion to 6-0.

Citizens stranded a runner on third base in the bottom half of that inning. Jamison stole home in the fourth, and Davenport’s run-scoring single saw the rout at 8-0.

Citizens came to life and cut the deficit to 8-4 in the fourth. A runner crossed on an error, a pair of scores were plated on walks and Greene stole home.

The onslaught was completed in the fifth. Davenport led off with a triple.

Stewart Guess tagged a run-scoring single, before runners crossed on a wild pitch and an error.

In dark, damp conditions, the pitchers dueled it out until a 10 p.m. curfew ended the finale.

Bailey Gwynn fired four innings, reaching the pitch limit. He didn’t allow a hit or earned run, fanned seven and walked five.

Lane Potter, picking up the save in his one inning of relief, was touched for one hit and yielded one earned run. He struck out two and walked two.

Left-hander Dalton Rouse went the distance in absorbing the loss. He gave up one hit, two earned runs, fanned seven and walked three.

The Lawdogs grabbed the first inning lead, when an error plated a runner. The bags were left juiced.

Beef O’ Brady’s surged ahead in the bottom half. An error allowed a score and Alex Norwood stole home.

The second saw Beef O’Brady’s increase its advantage to 4-1. Erika Potter led off with a single and later crossed on a wild pitch, and Lane Potter drove in a score.

The Lawdogs pulled within 4-2 in the third, when an error plated a run. Runners were stranded on second and third in the fourth.

In the fifth, Jaxton Holly led off a double. Following a passed ball, he scored on a wild pitch.

Runners were on second and third, when Bailey Guinn made a diving catch at shortstop to end the threat.

Lawdogs’ Dakota Gallimore and Evan Carter each stole two bases.
