A man convicted of robbery earlier this year says there was not enough evidence to be found guilty.
Jonathan Chapman was found guilty on June 15 by a Carter County jury on an aggravated robbery charge. He was then sentenced by Judge Robert Cupp on Aug. 29, when he was ordered to serve 10 years in prison.
A week later, Chapman’s attorney filed a motion for a new trial. Chapman’s hearing had been set for Thursday, but the case was reset until Dec. 7.
Since sentencing, Chapman, who was one of four people accused of robbing a Field Road residence in January of 2011, has obtained a new attorney. Chapman had been represented during his trial and sentencing hearing by Randy Fallin, but he has since hired Bradley Henry, a Knoxville attorney.
