Man in standoff had threatened to harm himself
Elizabethton police say a man who threatened to harm himself engaged officers in a brief standoff at a residence on East H Street on Monday.
Captain Joy Markland reported that officers were called at 4:20 p.m. to the 400 block of East H Street regarding a male subject possibly armed with a handgun, threatening to harm himself. Upon arrival, officers encountered a male subject who was observed to be holding a handgun to his head.
After a brief standoff with police, officers were able to speak with the subject who complied with officers’ commands to place the weapon down. The subject was taken into protective custody for further evaluation, without injury to himself or officers, Markland said.
