Mom faces murder charge

Tiffani Marie Holston, mother of 4-year-old Joshua Holston, the 4-year-old boy struck and killed by a dump truck in October, was indicted by the Carter County grand jury Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child neglect.

Assistant District Attorney Dennis Brooks said the lead officer in the investigation of the tragic Oct. 11 incident presented his findings to the grand jury.

“What was said in there, I wasn’t a part of it,” Brooks said.

Elizabethton Police Department Officer Doug Combs presented evidence to the grand jury on Tuesday morning as Holston, 27, of 150 White Road, appeared in Carter County Criminal Court on unrelated drug charges.

“She was on the docket for charges that were pending at the time,” Brooks said.

Brooks explained there are two types of first-degree murder charge.
