The driver of the pickup truck involved in a wreck Friday on Highway 19-E near Roan Mountain could face additional charges. Jason C. Hammonds, 38, of Johnson City, has already been cited for seat belt violation, no insurance, unregistered vehicle, switching tags and driving left of center. Officers said Monday it appears Hammonds was driving under the influence of drugs. Five people were injured in the wreck, which also involved an SUV driven by Sherry Byrd of Roan Mountain.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to Highway 19E near Roan Mountain on Friday at 4 p.m. on the report of a two-vehicle crash with entrapment and injuries. Trooper Brad Proffitt of the Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that before the crash local officers had been advised of a “be on the lookout” alert on a 2001 Chevrolet S-10 driving erratically on Highway 19E. The truck, driven by Jason C. Hammonds, 38, of Johnson City, had been traveling southbound.
