MSHA: Stalled insurance expansion behind elimination of 200 jobs

By

In the wake of decreasing revenues, Mountain States Health Alliance will cut 200 positions throughout its system over the next several months.

According to MSHA president Dennis Vonderfecht, however, those positions will be absorbed through attrition, not through a company-wide layoff.

“The way we’ve done that isn’t through layoffs; it’s through turnover,” Vonderfecht said. “We’ve accomplished that by redeploying people, and not bringing very many people from the outside that aren’t Mountain States employees, and letting attrition take its toll.”

Information on whether any positions at Elizabethton’s Sycamore Shoals Hospital would be affected was unavailable at press time.

Under the Affordable Care Act – or, ObamaCare – the reimbursement rates that hospitals receive are being reduced.
