The recent vote of the Elizabethton Planning Commission to increase the height of signs stinks!! The Planning Commission is controlled by self-serving developers.

The City Council needs to hear from the people before voting on this. Just because Johnson City has higher signs, why should Elizabethton? The last time I looked out the window we weren't next to the interstate so who are we increasing the height for? The Developers. After many years, the downtown is looking better than ever, the air and rivers are cleaner in our town. Let's stop listening to developers who don't even live in the city and begin listening to the voters. The STAR needs to weigh in on this stinky move!

I read the letter from Jessica Armstrong concerning our local thrift store. I have thought for sometime that what she wrote was right on target, and I agree with every word. I think if they would cut prices they could get more people to donate and also sell more of their furnishings, clothing and households goods, etc.

On another note. Although I did not lose power during any of the snows, I want to thank all the people who worked so hard on the power lines to restore power to those who were without and to the road crews for keeping the roads scraped. What would we do without them?

I am a Republican. You are a Democrat. I am not going to vote with you.

I am a Democrat. You are a Republican. I am not going to vote with you.

Just like little children fighting over who has the larger "half" of the sandwich.

Both parties seem to forget that they were voted into office by the people, not the party. They should vote for the betterment of the country and the people, who they represent.

Now, let's get down to the local level, Carter County. I don't care who puts forth ideas or suggestions. The ideas or suggestions should be voted on, not the person who presented them.

Like the national scene, they seem to forget that they were voted into office to work for the betterment of the county and the people who reside there.

All our elected officials, at whatever level, should epitomize honor and integrity.

Remember folks, this is an election year.
