Alberto Santiago-Torres


Alberto Santiago-Torres, 86, of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013, in the Hillview Health Center of Elizabethton
Mr. Santiago-Torres was born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico, to the late Candido Santiago and Florenta Torres. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucila Santiago Rivera and Esther Turner.
Mr. Santiago-Torres retired from Raytheon Corporation. He was a very active member of Oak Street Baptist Church and was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Tennessee National Guard for 16 years and retired as an E-7 Sergeant.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Sarah Santiago Rivera of the home; two daughters, Sara Nave and husband, Larry, Elizabethton, and Ivelise Bachman and husband Neal, Spokane, Washington; two sons, Cesar Santiago and Daniel Santiago and wife, Debbie, all of Elizabethton; nine grandchildren, Jeremiah and wife Meggan, Joshua, Angela, Jonathan and his wife Jennifer, Cherie, Michael, Jacob, Nicholas, and Caleb; three sisters, Blanca Miller, Unicoi, TN, Iris Acosta, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Eva Hernandez, Concord, NC; and four brothers, Mike Santiago, Dekalb, IL, Franklin Santiago, Miami, FL, Emilio Santiago, Kannapolis, NC, and Elpidio Santiago, Concord, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The celebration of life service for Mr. Santiago-Torres will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Bruce Hendrich officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Oak Street Baptist Church Choir and Jeff and Cassie Miller. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel prior to the service Sunday. Friends may call at the residence at anytime.
The graveside service will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
