She was a resident of Pine Oaks Assisted Living. She was a native of Roan Mountain, Tenn., and the daughter of the late Marion and Laura Benfield.
Aldona was a member of Keystone Freewill Baptist Church. She loved children, and enjoyed serving her church throughout her life. For several years, Aldona was a foster mother while living in the Roan Mountain area before moving to Johnson City in 1990.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Smith, who passed away in 1981, and Carroll Garland, in 1992, and a daughter, Ramona Jean Boone, in 1971.
Aldona is survived by her son, Roger L. Smith of Johnson City; daughter, Katherine Hoss and husband Larry of Fairfax, Va.; grandchildren, Theresia Boone Cannon of Elizabethton, Kyle Daniel Boone of Greeneville and Karen Hoss of Fairfax, Va.; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Aldona Smith Garland will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 25, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Rev. Bill Greer and Pastor Terry Jones officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until the service hour. A committal and interment service will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
