Alfred Lyons, 73, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Sam and Lula DeLoach Lyons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee Lyons; three brothers, Nathaniel, John, and Jim; and four sisters, Mary Oliver, Blanche Bishop, Delia White, and Rose Guess.
Mr. Lyons was the former owner and operator of Carter County Paint and Body Shop and was of the Christian faith. He loved hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Zelma Walker Lyons, of the home; one daughter, Sharon K. Birchfield and husband Paul, Roan Mountain; one son, Billy Joe Lyons and wife Kim, Telford; one sister, Shirlene Sams, Kingsport; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A gathering of remembrance visitation for Mr. Lyons will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, in the Fireside Room of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.
