Archie Lee Hammitt, 83, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Hammitt was a resident of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late George D. Hammitt, Sr. and Eva Glover Hammitt. He was a retired Carpenter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Hammitt and Dolly Davenport; and two brothers, George Hammitt, Jr., and Luther Hammitt and his wife, Betty.
Mr. Hammitt was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Whitehead Hammitt of Ivy Hall Nursing Home; a daughter, Carol Hilton, Johnson City; a sister-in-saw, Margaret Hammitt, Johnson City; five nieces ans their husbands, Patsy and Terry Miller, Shirlene and Dillard Sholes, Sharon Hammitt, Eva and Dickie Jones and Diane and Fred Vance; a brother-in-law, Harlan Whitehead, Elizabethton; and one nephew and his wife, John and Juanita Hammitt. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews, including two special great nieces, Paige Sholes and April Miller Lloyd and family; and his special friends, Joseph Taylor, Jeff Hilton and Tamila Harmon.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for the excellent care that Mr. Hammitt received. It was his wish to be cremated and no formal services. In lieu of flowers. memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105-1942 or the Washington County Animal Shelter, 525 Sells Avenue, Johnson City, Tenn. 37604.
